ICM – Accountability

During your coaching session, focus will be on achieving the goal you have set. You will find that accountability will be an additional motivation to get through your goals. On the ICM programme, I will be your accountability coach, and here is how I will do this:

  • Regularly check with you for any question or doubt you may have.
  • Regularly check with you on your progress.
  • Regularly provide feedback
  • Send additional materials that will get you closer to your goals.
  • If needed, I will remind you the cost of inaction

Being accountable creates a sense of trust and reliability, with yourself and also with people you are working with. It is essential to be reliable and consistent in your work, especially when you are in a leadership position. When people know they can count on you, they will want to follow your lead.

At a personal level, accountability will increase your participation and commitment in achieving your goals, which will get you to your goals faster. At work, accountability increase involvement, which in turn improves performance.

With accountability you are also more likely to look at new and different options to achieving your goals. Accountability at work brings the benefit of increased creativity and innovation, which, if maintained consistently, will definitely be noticed.

The more accountability you have, the more satisfied you will be with your achievements; this will boost your morale and motivate you to go for higher and bigger goals, ultimately increasing your competence level.

The most important benefit of accountability is perhaps not for yourself, but for the wider team, organisation or community. When you are accountable, your team and subordinates will want to measure up to your level of accountability, and these good practices can bring significant improvement to the team and organisation. At a larger scale, accountability can bring significant changes in your community, in the local politics, and in the whole country even.

People who keep their words make great leaders.

It is important to know what levels of accountability you can create, these are:

  • Coach
  • Buddy
  • Team
  • Public

During your coaching session, I will be your accountability coach. There will be occasions, depending on your goals, where you may have to have team and/or public accountability. You will be guided on how to create team and public accountability to guarantee

During accountability, ensure you are to the point and honest

Accountability comprises four core components: participation, evaluation, transparency, and feedback mechanisms. This means accountability is achieved when goals exist, ownership is delegated, transparent evaluation occurs, complete transparency ensues, and regular feedback exists.

  • Ensure you participate fully and take action on your success list.
  • Welcome feedback with an open mind.
  • Be honest with your progress.
  • Read all additional materials shared with you.
  • Make sure to take advantage of your ad-hoc meetings to clear any doubts you may have early on.
  • Reflect continously.

Successful leaders understand the cost of action and the cost of inaction and do everything to move forward in the right direction.
