You have invested in the ICM programme in order to succeed. To guarantee your success, you will need to allocate the time and effort required to reach your goals. In order to prioritise your coaching goals during the whole duration of your programme, you will need to keep all distractions on the side.
Script for explaining to your partner/spouse/family, how you are going to spend your time for the next few weeks/months. The scripts are in the order they should be used, script 2 is used only if needed and script 5 is for bonus points.
SCRIPT 1 – NEEDED
This would probably be best as a face-to-face conversation when everyone is rested, fed, hydrated, and feeling like a happy bunny!
I was hoping we can sit down and have a conversation about my time over the next few [weeks/months].
I have some exciting things going on for me that I wanted to share with you. I have chosen to invest in something and I want to tell you about it – it is super important to me and means I need to protect my time over the next [week/months].
I feel the coaching is important because it will [the changes it will make for you] and [the changes it will make to your family]. I am very confident these changes will bring us as a family to better positions.
Let me tell you more about this coaching. Every [insert day of week and time thatβs best for you] I am going to spend 2 hours with my coach. Every [day or days of the week], I am going to spend [number of hours] working on what it takes to implement the things I have committed to work on.
This means I will need a quiet space and no distractions during the coaching and also when I will work on my coaching outcomes.
I want you to know that I am committed to prioritising this and I need your help to make this happen.
With [list commitments that you need to do e.g. school runs, etc], I would like to finalise when will be the best time for me to concentrate on my coaching.
SCRIPT 2 – ONLY IF NEEDED
The next script is to be used only if something needs to be assigned to another family member, ensuring they are not overburdened by the extra responsibility. Swapping tasks sometimes works best without overburdening other family members.
I may not be able to [e.g. pick child on Wednesday evening]. I am happy to swap [another chore] with [somebody else] on [specify the day e.g. Thursday evening]. Would you [name of person] be comfortable with this swap?
This is also an ideal time to allocate more responsibilities to your children and make them feel they are contributing to the family.
I may not be able to [task e.g. load the dish washer and clean the kitchen on Wednesday night]. Would anyone like to volunteer to help the family with this? I would really appreciate it.
SCRIPT 3 – VERY IMPORTANT
Make sure to thank them and appreciate the effort your family is making for you, even before they can see the change in you.
I want you [all] to know that I am very grateful for understanding my position with regards to this committment, and for working with me to make this happen.
SCRIPT 4 – VERY IMPORTANT
After you have worked out the best time with your family when you can concentrate on your coaching session and coaching commitment, here is another powerful script.
I also want you to know that I am still going to be present for you [all]. This coaching will make me more be more efficient in what I do, and I will be able to save time, which I would like to spend with you.
SCRIPT 5 – RECOMMENDED FOR BIGGER SUCCESS
This is optional, but yet highly recommended.
I will have availability on [your free time and days], I would like to have more family times. How does that sound?
I would like to schedule date nights on [pick a day that you will spend time with your partner].
We can have a movie night [pick a day that you will spend time with your family].
I would like give more time to [names of children] and help you with your [studies/homework].
β¨ For the scripts to work, make sure to make it clear to them of the impact that coaching will have on you and the subsequent impact it will have on them.
